Bonk 2 Is Fun… For About 10 Minutes
I’ll be honest—I wasn’t expecting much from a game called Bonk 2. And after playing it for a bit, I think I was right to keep my expectations low. Don’t get me wrong, the idea is amusing. You play as a bouncy ball trying to knock other bouncy balls off a platform. It’s like a simplified version of Smash Bros meets slippery physics. The matches are short and chaotic, and for the first few rounds, it’s actually kind of funny.
But the novelty wears off quickly. The controls feel intentionally awkward, which I guess is part of the fun, but it also makes the game feel shallow. You can only do so much with bouncing and bumping. Once you’ve had a few good rounds, it starts to feel repetitive. There’s not much progression, no unlocks, and no real reason to keep playing beyond the first handful of matches.
The graphics are barebones, which is fine for a browser game, but the lack of polish does make it feel more like a tech demo than a finished product. A few extra features—maybe different game modes or some kind of customization—would go a long way. I tried playing it with a couple of friends, and we had a few laughs. But none of us felt like sticking around after 15 minutes. It’s the kind of game you boot up during a boring Zoom call or while waiting for something else to load.
I will say this: Bonk 2 doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. It knows it’s silly, it leans into the goofiness, and if you’re in the right mood, it can be a decent distraction. But for me, it just didn’t have enough staying power to keep me coming back.
